AET Highlights September 2024

CEO’s Message

We are now approaching the final quarter of 2024, capping off a year marked by meaningful changes and opportunities.

With my recent appointment as President & Group CEO of the MISC Group, alongside my responsibilities as President & CEO of AET, I will be leading the strategic direction of the group, with a focus on driving synergy across our businesses. AET will continue to play an important role in the broader success of the MISC Group as we work towards our shared mission of delivering more energy with less emissions.

This year is also a huge milestone for AET as we celebrate our 30th anniversary. I had the privilege of hosting esteemed customers, partners, and colleagues at AET’s 30th Anniversary Stakeholder Appreciation Dinner in Houston. My heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and made the evening a success. Your continued support has been instrumental to our growth over the years.

Throughout our 30-year journey, community investment has always been at the heart of AET’s culture. This year, we expanded tree-planting initiatives in Singapore and Malaysia, involving cadets, students, and industry partners in environmental conservation. In the US, we supported communities impacted by Hurricane Beryl and conservation efforts in Galveston Bay, while continuing to invest in future maritime leaders through scholarship programmes in the US and Singapore.

AET also participated in key industry events, including APPEC 2024 in Singapore and the Argus Sustainable Marine Fuels Conference in Houston. These platforms allowed us to engage with stakeholders and reaffirm our commitment to our 2050 net-zero goal as part of the MISC Group.

Lastly, in light of World Maritime Day, I would like to reinforce the importance of safety – which remains fundamental to how we do business. By fostering a generative HSSE culture, we ensure that safety is not just a priority, but a core value in every aspect of our organisation.

This fourth quarter and the years to come will be about delivering our #AET2030 goals. With the continued dedication of our people and support from our partners, I am confident that we will not only meet but exceed the challenges ahead. Thank you for being an integral part of AET’s journey. We look forward to achieving greater milestones together.

Best regards,
Zahid Osman

Our Commitment to a Safer Maritime Industry

At AET, our commitment to safety is not just a priority — it’s fundamental to how we do business. This year’s theme for World Maritime Day, ‘Navigating the Future: Safety First,’ resonates strongly with us. It calls for a collective effort to prioritise safety as we steer the industry forward. This culture of safety is reflected in our commitment to encourage a generative HSSE (Health, Safety, Security & Environment) mindset. Whether through Safety Huddles, Safety Moments, or fostering open communication, we ensure that safety is instinctive and ingrained in our every action. These initiatives not only reinforce our goal of zero incidents but also ensure continuity, operational excellence, and progress toward our #AET2030 sustainability goals.

Recently, during a safety stand-down at a shipyard where one of our vessels was undergoing maintenance, we relayed the importance of rest to our employees and yard personnel, ensuring that everyone was well-hydrated and ready to continue their work safely.

By fostering a culture where safety is at the heart of every decision, we continue #deliveringProgressing toward a safer and more sustainable future.

AET at APPEC 2024 & Argus Sustainable Marine Fuels Conference

In Singapore, Capt. Pallava Shukla, Director of HSSE and Decarbonisation, joined a panel discussion at the APPEC 2024 Shipping & Bunker Conference. He spoke about how we are advancing decarbonisation as part of our Energy Transition Strategy.

At the Argus Sustainable Marine Fuels Conference in Houston, Harold Boyer, Head of Commercial – Mid-Size Tankers, represented AET on a panel addressing the ongoing transition towards sustainable marine fuels, reaffirming our commitment to driving positive change in the shipping industry.

We look forward to further collaboration with like-minded industry partners to accelerate progress and support the broader maritime sector in its journey towards decarbonisation.

#AETCares: Driving Positive Change Through Diverse Initiatives

Throughout our 30-year journey, community investment has always been a core part of our culture. In line with our commitment to effecting meaningful change, we participated in various initiatives aimed at uplifting communities and protecting the environment.

In Singapore, we joined industry partners and MaritimeONE scholars to plant trees at Coney Island Park as part of the Singapore Maritime Foundation (SMF)’s Plant A Tree programme and the OneMillionTrees movement. We also participated in the Singapore Children’s Society’s “Walk for Our Children” event. In Malaysia, we continued our tree-planting initiative with cadets and local students at Akademi Laut Malaysia (ALAM).

In the US, we teamed up with Target Hunger, donating essential supplies, sponsoring laptops for future relief efforts, and packaging over 4,000 lbs. of fresh produce which provided ~18,000 meals for communities affected by the impact of Hurricane Beryl. In celebration of our 30th anniversary we also pledged donations to United Way of Greater Houston, Sinclair Elementary School, and Galveston Bay Foundation. These donations will support disaster relief and conservation efforts in Greater Houston and Galveston Bay.

Strengthening Partnerships Through Meaningful Engagement

Our success is built on the strength of our people and the relationships forged, and we’ve had the privilege to host and participate in events over the last two months that allowed us to build these connections further.

In commemoration of our 30th anniversary, we hosted esteemed customers, partners, and colleagues at a stakeholder appreciation dinner in Houston. We took the opportunity to reflect on our journey and express our heartfelt gratitude for their support, which has been instrumental to our growth over the years.

AET was also invited to the National Day and Malaysia Day reception hosted by the High Commission of Malaysia to Singapore. We joined over 500 distinguished guests from both public and private sectors to celebrate Malaysia’s heritage.

These events highlight the meaningful engagement with our stakeholders, enabling us to strengthen partnerships and foster continued collaboration.

Investing in the Future: Empowering the Next Generation of Maritime Professionals

In celebration of our 30th anniversary, and as part of our ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of maritime professionals, we increased our scholarship support in the US and Singapore.

In the US, we reinforced our long-standing partnership with Texas A&M University in Galveston by awarding scholarships to eight new brilliant students, bringing our total number of scholars to 24 since the programme’s inception in 2021. In Singapore, we doubled our impact by awarding four AET-MaritimeONE scholarships to promising students through our partnership with the SMF.

Congratulations to all scholars!
